Monastery of Abuna Hara Dengeel

We are looking to buy land for the future monastery in the Dallas area. Our next season is prayerful, worship-focused construction fundraising to build a sacred home for liturgy, community, and hospitality.

Vision & Sanctuary

To establish the Monastery of Abuna Hara Dengeel as a spiritually vibrant Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo monastery in North Texas -- a place where worship, prayer, learning, hospitality, and compassionate service flourish together, preserving the sacred traditions of the Church while serving future generations.

Sanctuary

At the heart of the Monastery of Abuna Hara Dengeel is a sacred vision: a permanent Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo sanctuary dedicated to worship, prayer, the Divine Liturgy, and the preservation of our ancient faith and traditions. Until the permanent sanctuary is completed, development will proceed in phases so that regular worship and spiritual life can grow on the property.

Spaces & Stillness

The monastery is envisioned as a peaceful place of prayer, reflection, and spiritual renewal. The 10-acre property will provide spaces where clergy, monastics, families, elders, youth, pilgrims, and visitors can step away from the pressures of daily life and experience worship, contemplation, fellowship, and the quiet beauty of a monastery environment.

Community Pulse

The monastery's mission extends beyond worship to compassionate service and education. Future programs are envisioned to include senior care, youth theological education, Ge'ez and Ethiopian Orthodox heritage learning, AI and technology learning opportunities for those in need, hospitality, and other community services. These programs will be developed responsibly in phases as resources and funding become available.

Construction with Purpose

Every phase of development will serve the monastery's spiritual mission and long-term sustainability. The 10-acre campus is envisioned to include a permanent church and monastery, monastic residence, senior care facilities, guest accommodations, educational and community spaces, farming and beekeeping, and a burial area. Development will proceed in phases as funding becomes available, creating a monastery that can serve present and future generations while working toward responsible self-sustainability.

Planning Timeline

These are the major phases we are tracking as the project moves from land search to monastery construction.

  1. We are identifying the right property location and moving carefully with prayer and prudence.

  2. Engineering, permitting, utility planning, and practical site-readiness work are being prepared for a future monastery location.

  3. The community raises support for the first worship-focused construction phases and the long-term monastery campus.
